Actuated Ball Valve, 12 Volt for Flow Control
Pro-Seal’s Actuated Ball Valve is a 12 volt, solar powered, flow-control valve. The ABV is the solution for reducing flow restrictions in the sales line aggravated by ball-and-seat style motor valve.
· Reduced flow restrictions
· Highest Cv ratings (Coefficient of Velocity)
· Boost plunger arrivals
· Reduce tank run requirements
· Choice of full port or reduced port
· Minimize sand erosion with the straight through passageway
· Minimize gas emission with electric actuation
· Retrofit for all plunger lift controllers (ABV-Power Module version)
· Wide variety of Off-Time settings for the M9EE Launcher (ABV-Control Module version)
· 2” NPT connections
· Actuations up to 1000 psi differential (reduced port)
Coefficient of Velocity (Cv) is the measure of restrictions through a flow line fitting or valve. The Cv for the most common gas-operated motor valve, a 2200-SMT with a 1” trim, is 21. The Cv for Pro-Seal’s ABV-2RP is 120.
Using a 2” full-port ABV on a 3” flow line will exceed the Cv of a 3” pneumatic valve by a factor of 3 (360Cv vs. 107Cv).
The Actuated Ball Valve is not recommended for line pressure differentials exceeding the 850 to 1000 psi range due to its inability to open under excessive differential. Below the 850 psi differential, the ABV is a low cost, low loss solution perfect for maintaining flow rate from low BHP locations that don’t have enough oomph to fight valve restrictions in the flow line. Now that many districts frown on venting to the tank, the ABV can extend the useful life of a plunger lift installation. Minimizing restrictions is the key to plunger arrival when liquids approach the tree. The ABV is also ideal for high rate locations prone to freezing at the flow control valve.
Three Control Options
ABV-S, ABV-PM, ABV-CM
The ABV-S is the standard ABV with 12v electric actuation controlled by operator-supplied power source. General operation is full open or completely closed. In the presence of sand, the life of the sealing surfaces exceeds that of the common gas-operated valves by 10 to 1 in the full open or closed operation due to the straight-through, restriction-free design. Throttle positioning will decrease the life of the seals if sand is present in the flow stream.
The ABV-Power Module (ABV-PM) is an actuated ball valve that includes a solar panel and a built-in battery pack plus a control relay pre-wired for connecting to the customer’s existing Plunger Lift controller. The ABV-PM is offered as full port or reduced port valve. The reduced port ABV is a 5x flow restriction improvement over the common 2” SMT (120Cv vs 21Cv).The full port causes no flow restrictions in a 2” line and is a significant improvement in a 3” flow line when compared to the pneumatic valve options available to the operator (360Cv vs. 107Cv). The ABV-Power Module is also used in conjunction with the Model 9E and M-18E SoapStick Launcher for flexible flow-control from the well prior to and during the drop of the soapstick.
The ABV-Control Module (ABV-CM), the third version of the ABV flow-control valves, is an Actuated Ball Valve for intermitting the flow line – with or without a Launcher or plunger controller. It can perform 2 distinct tasks. First, the ABV-CM is a stand-alone, low-cost, first step at improving production by generating a pressure and volume build period within the tubing/casing. The solar powered ABV-CM has a built-in Dial Processor and battery pack specific for a stop-cock routine. The ABV-CM has 10 discreet time settings for shutting-in the well ranging from 1 minute to 8 hours. As a stand-alone valve, the location will be shut-in once every 24 hours. Other options are available upon request.
For the 2nd task, the ABV-CM can be combined with a Model 9EE SoapStick Launcher. The ABV-CM will shut-in the well for a pressure building period prior to the launch of each soapstick. Each ABV-CM is shipped with a pigtail wire for easy connection to the M-9EE and is pre-programmed for operation in conjunction with the Model 9EE (or M18EE) SoapStick Launcher. Combining stop-cocking with a soap stick is the solution for de-watering -- up to 200 barrels of liquid per day in 2-3/8” tubing.
ABV-CM – The Dial Processor, solar panel and battery enclosure make the ABV-CM a self-contained, least cost, stop-cock valve that can double as a flexible flow control for the Model 9EE SoapStick Launcher.
(Note: The M9E and M9EE are 2 of our 10 distinct SoapStick Launcher products.)
